Sometimes I get sad
and I focus on obscure minutiae
to get me out of that hole.

Lately, I’ve been sad
so I’ve been focusing on a barn quilt
I’m having made for the outside of the house.

Barn quilts are a Vermont thing.
Patterns on wood – painted or otherwise –
placed in place to give passerby’s a hint
of the lives inside.

This one is 24″ x 24″.
Blue
Pink
Yellow
Purple
& Green
Tulips that will be mounted above
where my tulips grow this time of year.

And this all makes me think of this house
Which makes me think of an obituary
I just read for the mother of the woman
I bought this house from.

The woman I bought the house from
who planted those tulips.

And now I’m sad again.
